savannah, ga | travel guide
I'm a lone traveler and I'm 100% okay with that. There's much freedom when you travel solo. Don't get me wrong, I love traveling with friends too. I have a better sense of who I am when I'm driving and discovering places by myself. I'm the kind of person who dives into things whether I'm familiar with the place or not. There is much caution to take because you're alone but that's how it is for everything. Savannah itself is quite small, leaving there so many other places to explore around it. In this post I'll be sharing a few places I've visited.
1. Forsyth Park
This park is a great park for people watching, picnics, parties, hangouts or just sitting and thinking. Forsyth was initially what caught my attention before SCAD did, is that bad?
2. Daffin Park
Daffin park is my favorite park. It's more local than touristy. This park is more of a neighborhood park (in a residential area). Soccer practices, birthday parties, runners, etc. It was closer to my house and a little more quiet than Forsyth. I would usually park there and eat my lunch before I headed to work, bring my textbook to read under a tree or bring my serape and just enjoy the outside.
3. Coffee Bluff/ Marina
This is my favorite place in Savannah. It's nothing exciting for most people, but for me it's my happy place. It's hidden in a residential neighborhood, undisturbed by tourists. I watch the boats go by, the fishermen fish and the children play on the playground. I go here to think, I go here when I forget how lucky I am.
4. Tybee Island
Because who doesn't like the beach?! Last summer I stayed in Savannah and I'm pretty sure I spent 99% of my time here, floating away. Floating away from the Savannah humidity.
5. Jekyll Island
I'm a curious person and like to go on adventures...by myself. I had heard about Jekyll Island and needed a break from Savannah so I hopped into my car and drove to Jekyll, which in on the border between Georgia and Florida. I don't recommend going by yourself but I did have a wonderful time exploring the beaches. I took some photos on my disposable camera (I preferred those more than my camera photos...eek!)
